It may take a village to raise a child, but it takes all of us to transport animals across country. Sky Ark’s business model is based on sharing the cost of transport between donors who want to help animals and the pilots who want to log time in a multi-engine aircraft. Pilots pay for the cost of fuel, landing fees, lodging and meals, and donors cover the cost of the aircraft. Our transports are of the long-distance variety – from one end of the country to the other. We maximize the number of animals we carry, but we can't take off until the donation thermometer reaches our $6000 goal, ensuring that operations won’t be hampered by a lack of funds.
When we have enough donations and pilots, we fly. Please realize that the cost of 50 hours of flight time, which takes us across the US twice and gives us the ability to transport hundreds of animals to their destinations, is $13,000. The majority of that is paid by the pilots; the rest is paid by donors. Date of the next Sky Ark mission: up to you, the donor.
